O2j transmission 04 golf gti3/20/2023 ![]() Once I get a status of what needs to be fixed, I'll pass it along. I wish I knew more to make a recommendation, but right now I have a tranny repair bill that I wasn't expecting. I was just wasting my money replacing the seals.Ī little research I've done on the differential shows this to be a major problem for the O2J tranny, besides the rivets, and the gears in the diff. The tranny shop said there should be no movement at all. At 100k this was minimal, now at 111.5k its more than doubled. I could also move the the whole differential driver side to passenger side. On the passenger side I could move the flange up and down, front to back. I'm easy on my tranny, so I'm not sure why these bearings failed. Hopefully I caught this problem in time before burning up my tranny. Description: For 4cyl cars equippped with the O2J transmission. I just dropped off the tranny today to have the diff bearings replaced, but I'm considering upgrading to the peloquin posi diff. and a little prying.Īlso, when i detached the cables my shift stick in the car works flawlessly, and i mean really well, so at least i know its not that anymore.Well, as I posted before on this thread, at 110k miles I was still having issues with the flange drive seals, but 1500 miles later the bearings went south dumping most of my trans oil. will the stock gti shaft hold 200bhp from an ABF so are the 02J shafts too long iv got mk2. I sorta gave up after managing to get the two bolts out of the tower, as well as the reverse plug off when i couldn't get it off using my hands. iv got a mk1 golf that im putting an 2.0 16v ABF in. I did attempt to remove the whole shift tower assembly, as pictured, but the issue was that it too, was pretty damned stuck. It is so stuck into the bushing it isn't even funny, and it is no longer rotating in the bushing. The thing marked with an X is irremovable and is what i need out. Only thing is, I cant friggen get the thing out! I tried WD40, an hammer, a mallet, prying with a screw driver, pulling etc and only got it like 2mm out, but that thing is stuck in there! How do i get it off? In every video it slides out, but this feels like it is concreted in! Golf GTI Mark IV Technical Articles (2000-2004) Manual Transmission Removal. Ok i took some **** apart today and i'm going to hazard a guess that its the bushings like these attached to side to side linkage. If your going to be replacing the clutch the transmission needs to come out. Heres a video of how the shift L shaped thingy is so stuck, and not springy like it seems like it should be. I'm sick to my stomach because i want to be driving this car so bad, and probably dropped 1k on it (suspension, brakes, stereo) just for the transmission to have these problems. It takes some force to get it to go up and down, and im not quite sure if its linkages or what, but it seems springy in the video but mine is not. This item is not going up or down very easily as I saw in the dieselgeek video. Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 05/2001-04/2001, Model: Golf/Variant/4Motion, Golf 1. Complete rebuilt 02J Transmission for Mk4 Golf, Jetta & New Beetle 1.8T engines. Heres a video of me shifting it, before i attempted the adjustment. looking to buy 5 speed O2J code: EUH transmission. I tried spraying the shifter bushings with white lithium grease, made the up and down shifts smoother than they already were, but side to side is still like moving a stick through tar. Tranny oil probably has never been changed. I also couldn't really get the black lever to go upright. I sorta tried one of those adjustments but i dont think i actually adjusted anything, because it seems like there was no slack and i didn't want to force anything. It hasn't been driven hard (like ever) and the clutch feels ok. If I try for a long time i can get into reverse, but it takes alot of force/trial and error. Whenever i shift where reverse should be, im going in first. I actually have to use two hands to get it to go side to side, and to get into first i need to push down on the shifter (as if im going into reverse). Now, its difficult, or should i say weird to get into first. I degreased the engine bay probably a month ago and the car was difficult to get into reverse a week or two following it. So the cars been sitting for probably 6 months, and ive been doing some work to get it ready for registration. VW 2005 Jetta GLS 5spd MK4 2.0 BEV engine ![]()
